Carter Hasegawa - Long River Photography

I'm a West coaster at heart – born in Hawaii, grew up mostly in the suburbs of Seattle, a few stints in California – but I’ve been living in Boston since 2008 and I love being a New Englander. Don’t ask me for directions though because try as I might I still haven’t figured out my east from west, north from south. I blame it on the lack of mountains.

I love shooting portraits – my goal is to capture each and every person authentically, making sure that as your photographer, I tell the story of YOU.

My wife and I are the proud parents of our toddler son Miles and two cats Shelby and Owen, who seem to have accepted Miles to our brood.

Ten random facts about me:

  1. I have a book of photos published about public bathrooms.

  2. I grew up on a hippie commune in northern California.

  3. When I was in elementary school, I could ride a unicycle and juggle at the same time.

  4. I save all my $5 bills and spare change so when my newborn son turns 16 he’ll be able to buy a car.

  5. I’ve read each of the books in the Harry Potter series at least 20 times.

  6. I think cilantro is nasty and tastes like dirt.

  7. The hospital I was born in was blown up in an episode of Magnum, P.I.

  8. So far, I’ve been to 11 countries other than the U.S.: Australia, Belize, Canada, Cuba, Guatemala, Haiti, Iceland, Italy, Mexico, Netherlands, and St. Lucia.

  9. I’ve had a variety of jobs, including summer camp counselor, fast food grill cook, grocery manager, preschool teacher, shoe salesman, bookseller, book editor, yacht detailer, photographer, and textbook salesman.

  10. I love to cook fancy food but am happy to eat a pb&j for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

  11. BONUS FACT: My last name - Hasegawa - basically means long river in Japanese, so that's where our studio name comes from.
