I first noticed Rachel Santo after she did her first portrait meet-up last fall. I wasn't at that meet, but I saw the photos later on via Instagram and Rachel stood out. It's definitely her eyes - I mean, wow! - but Rachel also appears so natural in front of the camera. She's engaged with the viewer; she's inquisitive. I feel like she's issuing a challenge: "This is who I am. Know me." In any case, I knew I wanted to do a photoshoot with her if I could.
While I was in Sydney, I reached out to Rachel and asked if she wanted to do a shoot with me when I got back. She was on board, obviously. We finally settled on a day in mid-June, and lucky for us the weather was amazing. We started at South Station and wound our way to the Fort Point Channel and ended up at the Long Wharf. I love Boston, especially in the summer. And the route that we took is one of the reasons why I love my adopted hometown so much. Not only do you get stunning views of the water and the ever-growing Fort Point neighborhood, but there are a ton of these hidden away places that provide gorgeous settings for a photoshoot. And because it was Pride Month, one of the public art exhibits had transformed the Congress Street bridge into a glowing Pride rainbow.
Rachel is originally from Connecticut, but she's currently working on her business marketing degree at Northeastern University where she is also a cheerleader. While modeling is not her intended career - she's hoping to take the marketing world by storm - it is something that she enjoys doing for fun. And it's thanks to the models and the photographers at the Boston PortraitMeet group run by Can Ahtam that she learned how to pose. Rachel also has a great sense of style: simple outfits that are easy to match.
Thank you so much, Rachel, for doing the shoot with me. If any of my readers are interested in doing a shoot with me, please feel free to contact me directly. Or if you'd like to work with Rachel, contact her via her Instagram linked above. In the meantime, here are the rest of the photos from that day. Enjoy!
