I can't believe this was only my third Portrait Meet - what an amazing group! - And I had such a fantastic time. Since I work at the bookstore on the weekends, as well as my three months in Sydney, it's hard for me to make it to all of the events this group puts together. But a few weeks ago, I joined the group starting at the Christian Science Plaza as we wound our way over to the historic South End neighborhood. Hosts Can Ahtam, Steve Nisotel, and Rasvan Popa put on a great event, as always.
Like every meet this group puts on, there are always new faces at the event. And of course, there were plenty of returning folks as well. Some of my favorite local Instagrammers that I follow were there--I only wish I got to meet all of them that day. Perhaps it was because of the great weather we had, but there was an incredible turn out for the event, making it hard to meet everyone. I was off taking pictures of one of the models when the group shot happened, but here's most of everyone that was there that day (photo credit: PortraitMeet):
For some reason, it felt like something clicked for me at this event. I'm still a long ways off from where I want to be with my portrait / fashion photography, but I feel like the photos that I took at this event were leaps ahead of what I snapped at the event the week before (Cambridge Portrait Meet). I think a large part of this is simply time and practice. But the influence and mentorship of the other photographers are invaluable. Not only do we have each other there as a resource, but you also have dozens and dozens of shots to review post-event: it's like a mobile classroom. And I cannot highlight this enough--the event is free! I'm grateful for this event and I can't wait for the next one. Although I'll be in Seattle for the last half of July, so I have a feeling that I'm going to miss it.
Here are some of my favorites that I took that day. One small note: my go-to position for my camera is horizontal; but what struck me is that many of my favorites from this event were vertical shots. I'll have to have a think on that. In any case, here you. Enjoy!
